Authorities in Calhoun County, South Carolina said a workplace accident in a plastic bottle manufacturing facility resulted in a fatality and two injuries, an article of Insurance Journal reported on December 7.
According to reports, the fatal workplace accident happened on December 6 inside the DAK Americas facility south of Columbia. Coroner Donnie Porth told reports that three employees contacted chemicals used in manufacturing plastic bottles. The fatality was later identified as Alton Zeigler, 63, but authorities did not release the identities of the two injured people. A site manager for the company said annual maintenance was being conducted when the accident took place, and the pipe on the pump where the crews were working should be turned off. The company reportedly has over 400 employees, making it one of the biggest employers in the county.
