American automaker Chrysler has issued a recall of 228,181 Jeep Cherokees to fix the side airbags that may unexpectedly deploy, The Detroit News reported on February 2.
Reports said the side airbags of the affected Jeep SUVs may suddenly launch unintentionally when drivers operate the vehicles in “extreme maneuvers.” Chrysler explained in such extreme situations the sensors may activate the side airbags to protect drivers from possible rollover accidents. To address the problem, dealers will conduct a software update to the recalled Jeeps. Chrysler stated they have not received reports of accidents or injuries involving the affected vehicles, which are also distributed in other countries.
