Fatal vehicular accidents in South Carolina increased this year compared to 2013, and intoxicated driving was found to be the leading cause of the deaths, a News 2 article stated on December 12.

Colonel Michael Oliver of the South Carolina Highway Patrol stated that their personnel often witness the catastrophic results of drunken driving. To reduce such fatal accidents and injuries caused by impaired driving, the state’s public safety department launched a program on December 11 intended to fight intoxicated driving.
