QUIT TEXTING, AND DRIVE!
On Wednesday, June 4, the South Carolina General As
sembly passed a statewide ban on texting and driving. The bill is now on the Governor’s desk where it is anticipated that the bill will be signed into law. During the first six months after the law takes effect, police and troopers will only be issuing warning tickets. The fine for texting and driving will be $25.00, but a violation of the ban will not result any penalty points on the driver’s license.
Drivers can still text on their phones when the car is pulled over, completely stopped at a stop sign, or red traffic light. Also, the ban does not apply to the use of GPS devices or GPS capabilities on phones. South Carolina is one of the last states in the US to implement a statewide texting and driving ban.
