A Fiat Chrysler factory employee was killed in a workplace accident that happened at the company’s Jefferson North Assembly factory, according to a report by Bloomberg Business on May 5.
The United Auto Workers identified the fatality as Donald Megge, 53, a resident of Sterling Heights in Michigan. According to reports, Megge, who is a wastewater operator and a millwright, was working at the factory’s wastewater treatment plant when the accident occurred. Megge’s body was found an hour after his regular work shift started at 5:30 a.m., the company stated. Fiat Chrysler spokeswoman Jodi Tinson said they are coordinating with local officials in investigating the fatal accident.
According to Labor Department data that has accumulated over past years, workplace fatalities have reduced over the last decade, although director of the Industry and Labor group at the Center for Automotive Research Kristen Dziczek maintains that one fatality is still too many.
