A Georgia man was killed in a two-vehicle collision early Thursday near Batesburg-Leesville.
The man was identified as Alfred D. Jackson, 77, of Decatur, Lexington County coroner Margaret Fisher said in a news release.
According to reports, the driver of a 2006 Chrysler van was traveling east on Interstate 20 around 5 a.m. when it collided with a Dodge truck heading in the same direction near mile marker 39, the news release said.
Jackson, a passenger in the van, was taken to a hospital, where he later died, the news release said. The driver and other van passengers also were taken to hospitals; their conditions were not known just before noon Thursday. The driver of the truck was not injured.
The Lexington County Coroner’s Office and S.C. Highway Patrol are investigating.
