A new study claims that the roads in rural South Carolina have the highest fatality rate in the U.S., wbtv.com reported on July 11.
Transportation research group TRIP identified that South Carolina has the highest rate of road deaths compared to other states. The group said there are 3.99 road-related deaths in South Carolina for every 100 million miles traveled by vehicles on rural roads. TRIP stated that roadway safety features, vehicle safety and driver behaviors were some of the factors for the increased death rate in the state. In 2012, South Carolina ranked 5th among states with high rural road fatality with a record of 637 traffic related deaths.
