Multinational company Ikea recently issued a recall to an estimated 27 million dressers and chests that are prone to falling after two children were killed in this manner last year, USA Today reported on July 23.
According to reports, the children died after they were knocked down by Ikea Malm chests. The affected drawers and chests reportedly are prone to tipping over and may pin down children. Aside from the two deaths in 2014, Ikea was also aware of three fatalities involving other Ikea dressers or chests since 1989. Consumers who have the recalled Ikea products are instructed to get a free repair kit, which will allow them to attach the affected products to the wall. While waiting for the repair kit, consumers are advised to temporarily keep the recalled Ikea products away from children’s reach.
